It has been a while that I have been intending to write to The Times, but for different reasons I didn't. Now after having read the article about the increase in restaurant costs, after the price of gas went up, I feel the attention of the government and Maltese people should be drawn to the total isolation of Gozo.
It is a worldwide economic crisis. But this situation is also made worse for the economy of Gozo and its tourism due to the fact that the Maltese are being advised not to come to the sister island because of the flu.
If so, why not put Gozo in total quarantine?
I have a baby and am always in direct contact with doctors and they are not alarmed at all.
There is no one recovering from the flu in hospital and children are playing together out in the sun.
I think that after the damage the local media did to this tiny island, the media itself should make things right and tell the Maltese the truth: that coming to Gozo and visiting local places and restaurants is safe.
Gozo seems like a desert, with no Maltese coming over for a holiday, and the few tourists that cross over for the day saying they were advised not to come to Gozo because of the flu.
Money should circulate all over the Maltese islands not only in Malta.
The Gozo Minister should do something as well.
So, fellow Maltese, open your eyes and come back to Gozo which is as beautiful and as safe as ever.
