The six-man outfit from Żebbuġ claimed the honours yesterday following a keenly-contested competition for teams at Bidnija that saw the participation of 12 sides from various localities in the country.

Rules stipulated that the best four scores from each squad were to count and the Żebbuġ team finished on top with 198 points from a possible 200 thanks to the impressive efforts of Michael Bugeja 50/50, Gordon Borg 50/50, Joe Cini 49/50 and Gino Azzopardi 49/50.

Qormi (T. Mifsud, G. Borg, G. Mifsud and M. Brincat) were the runners-up on the day after winning a shoot-off with the team from Mġarr (F. Galea, J. Gauci, G. Camilleri and M. Vella).

The two teams had finished the competition tied on 197 clays.

Balzan (M. Micallef, J. Mallia, C. Deguara and R. Camilleri) settled for fourth place on 194 points.

Meanwhile, Żebbuġ shooter Bugeja won the competition for individuals with a score of 75/75+24.

Bugeja did well to beat the challenge of Salvu Borg, Jean Pierre Mifsud, Noel Borg and Charles Azzopardi in the final.
