Updated: Localised fault causes B'Kara-Iklin power cut
A localised fault has caused a power cut affecting large areas of Birkirkara as well as Iklin, an Enemalta spokesman said this afternoon.
The fault developed at around 2 p.m., causing misery to thousands of people who have to make do without air conditioners and fans.
The spokesmen said the fault would be repaired in a few hours but could not be more specific.
Power was restored to all affected areas at 5.30 p.m.

This is ridiculous. We happened to be in Ghadira at least and we reached home back we found the electricity back.. Imma din assurda! Jien qed nisma hafna tgergir u tbazwir specjalment, x'ha issir mil-fuel section tal-airport..?? Ha nibdew nofru naqra prezzijiet u servizz ragenevoli lil ajruplani z-zghar? Meta ha nifthu General Aviation Terminal mhux basta ilna nibnu ufficini l-airport u gibnih qisu metropolitan city, u ajruplani privati ma jieqfux malta habba li jinhela hafna hin ghal-fuel u anke servizzi ohrajn sakemm ikunu qed jistennew. Jekk jogbkom enemalta..let's cut it out (tafu xiex ejja ma nitbaxxux) imma madoffi hux... ejja ha naghmlu xi haga ta. Jiena nahseb li l-MIA flimkien mal-gvern kapaci jifth GA Terminal..

@ Engelbert
Last April I was in Germany for 2 days and suffered a 45 mins power cut. So, I guess, the revolution started by now!

@Brian Maloret, Paul Barrett
At least one does not pay for something which is not available. Melita insist that I pay also for the day when I had no service.

Simply unacceptable.
We live in Qrendi and for the past 2 days we had no water in the taps!

In the past couple of months we have had periods when we have had no electricity (twice), no water and a day when Melita customers could not access the internet. What is happening in Malta or, as the case might be, not happening? I wonder what the thoughts of tourists are when they experience these problems whilst on holiday here. It really isn't good for the image of Malta. M. Costa In most European countries if there was a power cut places like hospitals and shopping malls would not be left without electricity as most have their own generators.

@M. Costa: I lived 30 years in germany and I do not even one powercut which lasted more than a couple of seconds (just a flickering light). If there would be one/year as you said there would be a small revolution :-)

As far as I know, most European countries only experience power cuts when there are severe storms. Power cuts in pleasant weather are very rare and probably do not take place more than once a year, or even less often. Unfortunately we can't say the same for Malta. Here we are, on an island the size of a large shopping mall, and we can't even have a guaranteed supply of electricity for more than a few weeks. We truly are the trash of the EU.

"thousands of people who have to make do without air conditioner"
On the bright side, look at the compensation:
thousands of people who have to make do without air conditioner WILL HAVE LOWER ELECTRICITY BILLS. :-)

here we go again! how many power cuts in 2 or 3 months? incredible. I hope that no one will come out saying incidents just happen.
Sheer incompetence!
