A 30-year-old motorcyclist from Marsaxlokk was seriously injured when he crashed into a small truck in Żejtun Road, Marsaxlokk, at around 11.15 a.m. yesterday. The truck was driving in front of the bike and the latter slammed into the back of it.

I'm not generalising, but in my observations, motorcylists with racing bikes tend to, well, race. Not giving any consideration to potential hazards and the time to take evasive action of such.

Looking at the photo it seems the the motorcycle hit the truck's side and not crashed in the back of it.

From the early news article published yesterday, the following information was given which, if accurate, gives a slightly different view of the accident:
"Eyewitnesses said that the truck, which was in front of the bike, stopped and its driver, a 47-year-old man from Ghaxaq, reversed it to enter the fields on the side of the road and the motorcyclist drove straight into the truck."
Let us at least hope for a speedy recovery for the motorcyclist.
