Warden who didn't give a ticket
On August 6 at 10 a.m. I told a warden on duty in St Paul Street, Valletta that a motorbike parked two inches away from the rear of my car was making it impossible for me to get out of the parking slot. Although the warden was made aware that I hold a disabled parking permit, he failed to issue a ticket to the owner of the motorcycle despite my pleas.

Mr Zahra. Allow me to emphasise my expression - ‘taking the bull by the horns’. The law is there for everyone. I once had told off a police sergeant who parked on a reserved area belonging to a badge holder in our area, irrespective to his reasons behind it! He obliged! Unless it’s an emergency, like someone is being killed or something, he is to observe the law just as I do! He was just visiting a friend to hand over a wedding present, I was then told. On another occasion I had summoned a police officer on duty at Malta International Airport to remove a medical doctor’s car from the badge holders’ area–who had the cheek to sport a sticker as ‘Doctor on Call’ when she was simply waiting for an incoming traveller. Unless we have enough manhood in our pants to challenge this way, wardens and the rest of our law enforcement systems will remain what they are! And No Mr M Zammit, if things remain that way, they can never win and are not expected to win!! Credibility is the one resource that allows winning, but very scarce I’m afraid.

Poor wardens... they can never win! If they give tickets we grumble because we're not at fault. If they don't we grumple because they're not doing their job.. and you know what... we all want wardens to ticket others but NOT US!

I would like to ask a question, although I very much doubt an answer will be forthcoming. Does a warden have the right to park his car/moped in front of a garage, on a double yellow line, on a corner or any place he/she pleases inorder to descend and start writing tickets to others. Do wardens have a right to break the law inorder to enforce it?

You might be a whinging Brit Mr Poulfry...but surely a wise one:) I fully agree with you. Its useless complaining unless one takes the bull by the horns and do what is best for good orders’ sake. The warden must have personally known the culprit!!! So in accordance with local standard practices...he is not to be fine!! So Mr Grech, you should take Mr Poulfry’s advise and make your own standard practices.....report the Warden for his shortcoming who is there, in the first place, to maintain order and courtesy especially where badge holders ‘are concerned.

Didn't you know squire that in Malta is not what you know but whom you know, Being English and a whinger, i would have taken his number, time, date and place and reported this warden for not doing the job he is getting paid for, after all Police and Wardens are only Public Servants! and if as you say you hold a disable badge or permit made it more in your interest to report him. I would have, there is no doubt about that, they don't seem to think some drivers in Malta, and only think of themselves rather selfish, and the majority don't know the meaning of COURTESY* to other road users.
