'Transparent' Parliament
I think I have a solution to the ongoing debate about Renzo Piano's design for Valletta. Why not redesign the interior of the intended Parliament building so that it becomes a theatre and move Parliament into the new open opera house. That way the nation gets a new national theatre and Parliament achieves what it tells us it is always striving for, namely, transparency!
I would make one more adjustment.
I would put a roof on the opera house. It would be a shame to waste all that hot air generated by political debate!

I stand to be corrected, but if I remember correctly Mr Martin had originally very eloquently endorsed Paino's plans for Valletta! Why now the change of heart? Presumably in jest!!
But I do not think that the development of the entrance to our historic City and Parliament should be a laughing matter!! Far from it !
The only sensible and logical place for our House of Parliament is a REVAMPED "FORT ST ELMO" magnificently overlooking the beautiful MEDITERANEAN and the wonderful GRAND HARBOUR .....

Why are there people who try to make fun when referring to parliament and memembers of parliament. If people think it is a sinecure becoming a parliamentary member, why not apply to become one when the elections are being held.
Remember that parliamentary debates are held in public not behind close doors and what one says is published verbatim and kept available for generations.
Being a member of parliament is a public service. Without parliaments we have dictatorships. Is that what these critics want? It is the people who elect them and they are not handpicked.
Though at times some people register as a candidate one might say out of fan, they are accepted to run but it has never happened that electors did not see through them and hardly give them a couple of votes if any. This only means that the majority of citizens do see the importance of Parliament and try to chose the right persons.

Parliament and all Ministries, particularly those in Valletta, to a new Civic Centre at Manoel Island, proclaimed as part of Valletta by Act of Parliament.
