Siggiewi Mayor Robert Musumeci says that he does not want to hinder the work of the Labour Party in his locality despite having voted for a motion asking government not renew the lease of the PL club when this expires next June.

In an interview with The Sunday Times Mr Musumeci tells Kurt Sansone that he did not know the details of the lease agreement between government and the Labour Party before the motion was presented during a council meeting by his deputy Karol Aquilina.

He defends his vote on the basis that the aim of the motion to have the property transferred to the council to be used as a day care centre was valid but insists that as mayor he cannot ignore the repercussions it caused.

Labourites are obviously irked, he says, and I will work to try and find a solution.

Mr Musumeci also speaks about his profession and insists it is every architect’s duty to defend his client’s applications even if they are in an ODZ area.
