Malta's junkyard (3)
I know it's the ADT's job to take the public for a ride, literally, providing bus systems and such, but I didn't realise this extended to the laughable mess of the emission alerts.
To cap it all, the people at the ADT seem to think that the SMS alerts system was a great success at raising public awareness, and so it was. The public is now keenly aware of how poorly managed the system was and how the money spent reporting others who offend has been wasted. On the other hand, those heavy black smoke polluters on our roads can carry on safe in the knowledge that little will come of it if past track records are anything to go by. By delaying a whole year, the ADT has slipped the black smoke brigade a 'get out of jail free' card.
Yet, no apologies have been forthcoming; no heads have rolled. Only the usual smokescreen, but it's not just the pollution this time! Yes, the good old ADT is consistent, taking the public for a ride and have even promised a return trip next year.
In the end, Malta has surpassed all expectations by becoming the only EU country where the non-polluter pays for the misdemeanours of the polluter. Frankly, I'd rather have a refund.
