The 32-year-old Maltese man who was found dead in an apartment in Qawra had suffered from cardiac arrest, an autopsy found.

On Thursday, the police discovered his corpse after receiving a number of complaints from the neighbours about a bad smell.

The man had been dead for a number of days in the apartment in Triq Barnaba.

According to the autopsy's preliminary results, the man died of a cardio respiratory failure, which happens when the heart and lungs stop functioning.

More toxicological tests are to be held, the police said.
