Greek club Kastoria are interested in signing Valletta's Dutch midfielder Jordi Cruyff, according to a brief report on Italian sports website tuttomercatoweb.com.

The news item claims that Kastoria, who play in the lower leagues of Greek football, are prepared to offer Cruyff a two-year contract.

"Cruyff would be a luxury for this category," Enrico Fabbro, the club's Italian coach, was quoted as saying.

"I've also read in the Greek media about this opportunity (to sign Cruyff) and the player's interest. Before making other considerations, we have to wait and see if the deal goes through."

Cruyff, 35, joined Valletta in the close season, taking up the dual role of player and assistant coach.

Victor Sciriha, the Valletta FC president, is aware of the story about the Greek club's interest in Cruyff but claims that the Dutch player has no intention of leaving Valletta.

"I spoke to Jordi about this report," Sciriha told The Times.

"He has heard of this Greek club before but he wants to stay with Valletta."

Sciriha looks set to revive his interest in Marsaxlokk midfielder Kevin Sammut.

Valletta were believed to be very close to signing the Malta international last week but the deal was put on hold as the Citizens assessed their midfield options.

For a time this week, it looked as if Valletta had dropped all interest in Sammut but the latest reports suggest that Sciriha doesn't want to miss out on one of the country's most talented playmakers.

Sciriha is expected to have fresh discussions with Marsaxlokk today in the hope of tying up a deal for the 28-year-old Sammut.

Meanwhile, Birkirkara coach Paul Zammit is still working to sign a foreign goalkeeper.

Jorge Sebles Mora, a 27-year-old Spaniard, is expected to guard Birkirkara's goal in today's Carlsberg Tournament match against Qormi at the Hibs Ground (kick-off 9 p.m.).

The opening fixture is between Hibs, the tournament hosts, and Marsaxlokk.

Reports that George Gribbon is a target for Premier League club Birkirkara have prompted Melita FC to publicly state that the Malta U-21 defender is not for sale.

Mauro Di Lello, the Italian defender who was on the books of Birkirkara for the second half of last season, has joined Sporting Terni.

The newly-formed club will participate in Italy's Serie D league.
