The Malta Environment and Planning Authority (Mepa) decided 425 applications and received 580 new applications last month, bringing its net pending caseload to 4,869.

The authority said it processed 120 notifications of development, which did not require a formal application.

It issued 73 stop and enforcement notices - 63 in Malta and 10 in Gozo. The enforcement section within Mepa closed 34 cases, 25 in Malta and 9 in Gozo.

Another 12 enforcement cases were sanctioned by a planning permit while another 19 cases were resolved by the owners’ decision to remove their illegal development and comply with the enforcement notice.

The Authority issued 35 waste carrier permits and four environmental permits. Three environmental inspections on permitted facilities were carried out.
