Human smuggler asks for bail
A man who was jailed for seven years after he was found guilty by jurors of aiding four Indians in two botched escape attempts in 2005 has filed an application asking for bail until his appeal has been heard.
Gamil Abu Bakr, 39, has effectively only one more year to serve, considering that he has already spent four years in preventive custody and has been given remission for good conduct.
But he filed an appeal following the judgement handed down by Mr Justice Joseph Galea Debono on July 2.
Mr Bakr, now a Maltese citizen, arrived in Malta in 1995 as a refugee, got married here and had two children with his Slovenian wife, who returned to her home country a short time after the human smuggling case began.

If this man is allowed to keep his citizenship after abusing our hospitality how can then the authorities expect other foreigners not to do the same. This person is not entitled to remain here and if the law needs to be changed then who ever is responsible let it be amended so judgement can be implemented.

Human trafficking is viewed as a most serious offence by the E.U., and severe penalties are prescribed for those convicted of such an offences. This person, who participated in the trafficking of his own person, as well as in the trafficking of others, has dishonoured Malta the country that adopted him. The circumstances under which he was allowed to remain in Malta, marry, and become a Maltese citizen should be thoroughly investigated and further punishment should be meted out if any wrong-doing has occurred. Furthermore he should be considered a flight risk; therefore. under no circumstances should bail be granted. He should be stripped of his Maltese citizenship and DEPORTED to his country of origin upon completion of his FULL prison sentence.

NICE-WE GIVE HIM CITIZENSHIP AND HE PROCEEDS TO COMMIT A CRIME. REVOKE HIS CITIZENSHIP! CITIZENSHIP IS NOT A RIGHT, IT IS A PRIVILEGE!
