Air Malta launches mobile phone check-in
Air Malta has launched free mobile phone check-in for all its flights out of Malta International Airport.
Passengers travelling with or without baggage can now check-in and select their seat onboard Air Malta flights through their internet-enabled mobile phones.
Air Malta passengers can login on www.mobile-airmalta.com from their phone as early as 23 hours up to two hours prior the scheduled departure time. They can check in for their flight by entering their name and flight number and have their bar-coded boarding pass delivered to their mobile phone in an image format. Apart from being able to choose their seat on board the aircraft, passengers can go through the airport formalities prior to entering the restricted area and at the departure gates simply by displaying the boarding card image on their mobile phone.
Speaking about this service Joe Cappello, Air Malta’s chief executive, said, “Following the encouraging feedback and take-up of check-in through our web portal launched last year, we went a step further and are now are offering check-in facilities through mobile phones.
“Only a few airlines in the world have started to use this technology and we are excited to be one of the first. With the introduction of these new facilities and investment in new technologies we are reaffirming our commitment to our passengers by offering them an even easier service at the airport.
“We are not only simplifying the check-in process, but also, through reducing paper, we are helping our environment,” he added.
Passengers carrying luggage can also make use of mobile check-in but they must proceed to the drop-off web check-in counter and check in their luggage on arrival at the airport.
The airline intends to expand this service to incoming flights at selected airports in the near future.
The service is free.

YES Yes yes @Mr.Peter Murry i go along with that, it would be far better for us frequent flyers who happend to reside on the island then we don't have to look further for cheaper airlines, if only AirMalta come to their sences and see the difference it would make to the economy and their airline, i for one will stop useing RyanAir or EasyJet and book with Airmalta but until such time i am not prepared to wait until NOVEMBER, thats child's play my Inteligent Maltese friends!

Nice technology were it works!! I work in the Libyan desert and whenever I need to change or re-book a flight I have to call Air Malta in Malta as Air Malta's telephone system in Tripoli has not worked for the past 8 or 9 months at least. We were told that a new system has been installed...... If I send an email to Air Malta's offices in Tripoli it will be replied to about 2 days later....... And NO it's not because it's Libya. Well done Air Malta! But can you also please try to solve the following:
a) why does Lufthansa not provide passengers with the boarding card for the second leg of a ticket on an AirMalta flight even when the ticket is issued in full by Lufthansa? This results in a lot of rush and hassle especially via Frnakfurt, ;
b) why cannot one check in on an Air Malta flight on-line when the ticket is not issued by Air Malta itself, but, say, by Lufthansa or Brussls Air, and this despite the code-sharing agreements in place?
c) why is Air Malta using the extremely stuffy Gate 1 in Frankfurt, without air-conditioning for a number of months, and isolated from all the other gates?
d) why has it allowed MIA to force passengers through a ridiculous detour of the shopping malls in the departure area in Malta rather than facilitate a direct route to the gates?
e) why is Air Malta not allowing its frequent passengers with just a few missing airmiles for upgrading their Flypass card to do so during the following year but have to start all over again?
All these involve Air Malta services...so some urgent attention please!
