Peru's National Day celebrating its Independence from Spain in the 19th century fell on July 28.

The many Maltese missionaries in Peru remain the deepest contact. Every year containers of provisions are sent to them from Malta.

Peru is a great tourist destination, with Macchu Picchu remaining one of the marvels of the world. Maltese holidaying in Peru do not need visas.

The Association of Exporters (Adex), the Commission on the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (Promperu), the Ministry of Agriculture (Minag) and Corfairs Pacific, are organising Expoalimentaria 2009 (Expofood 2009) which will take place from September 9 to 11. Expoalimentaria 2009 is a leading international food and beverage trade fair, that brings together the most important Peruvian agro-industrial and fishery producers and exporters, as well as the most qualified importers around the world. For more details please contact peter@torregiani.com.

Additionally Peru seeks importers for its traditional handicrafts, including its famous silver. Interested importers please e-mail me as above.

These matters merit attention. The world community has to develop and globalisation needs an injection of solidarity. Malta will grow in the measure that its being in the EU helps the EU build up the long awaited global civilisation of love everybody aspires to.
