Wenger calms Wilshere hype

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger attempted to put a lid on the growing hype surrounding teenage striker Jack Wilshere after the 17-year-old produced a sensational display against Rangers on Sunday.

Wilshere scored the opening goal in the 3-0 win over the Scottish champions which gave the Londoners the Emirates Cup and was a danger all afternoon, a timely display in front of watching England coach Fabio Capello.

"I don't know how much he will play this season. It is very difficult to predict," said Wenger of the youth team star.

"The only problem in England, knowing the impatience of English people, is that it will be difficult to keep the right pace in his progress. Let's be calm and quiet. There is still a year to go to the World Cup, and let's see how he improves, how he is consistent.

"Let's not make stars in just two games. You have to respect the development of the players."

With the new English Premier League season starting on August 15, Wenger said he still wants to further strengthen a squad which has lost both Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure to Manchester City.

"I will now think about the whole squad," said the Wenger.

"Two weeks ago, I didn't know if we would have Eduardo or not, or Tomas Rosicky back. They both look to be completely back, so that makes the squad quite big."
