Maltese flag flies on environmentally-advanced cruise ship
A Maltese-flagged cruise ship which is also one of the most environmentally-advanced vessels of its type, has set sail on its maiden cruise.
The Celebrity Equinox is in the Norwegian Fjords and will later head for the Mediterranean for the first of a series of East Med cruises starting from Civitavecchia.
It will then cross the Atlantic for late autumn and winter cruises in the Caribbean.
The 122,000 ton ship carries more than 200 solar panels, a special silicon coating of the hull to reduce resistance and fuel consumption as the ship moves through the water, special glass to reduce heat transfer and advanced waste water purification systems.
Richard D. Fain, chairman of Celebrity Cruises and chairman and CEO of parent company Royal Caribbean Cruises said the group was proud to fly the Maltese Cross on one of the most environmentally advanced cruise ships in the World.
"We are grateful to the government of Malta for tirelessly working to make the shipping register one of the most respected in the World.”
The Celebrity Equinox is the ninth Maltese flagged ship owned by Celebrity Cruises.

@ Maria Pace
I think you've missed the point in this article, but will say your reaction does give a lot of insight into the narrow mindedness within the island.
Malta is now part of the EU, let's all get on.

What is everyone talking about? This article is NOT about flying flags from rooftops! It is about the fact that the maltese shipping authority being able to attract an advanced and modern cruise liner to fly under its flag.
So good job to the authority. Well done.

Mr Catania, there is quite a lot of Maltese in UK and very welcome they are. I can assure you in London you can buy Kinnie, twistees and cheesecakes. Myself I wouldn't fly a flag on my rooftop but I am not offended by anyone who chooses to do so no matter which Nationality they are. My husband is Maltese and lived in UK for 35 years and he was always made to feel welcome and part of British society as I myself have been made welcome here in Malta but there is a minority here that seem to dislike having foriegners living in Malta. I like Malta and its people very much and I am happy that we decided to retire here.

whenever maltese raise the maltese flag in canada and most of other countries they also raise the flag of that country either on two seperate poles or on one pole with the flag of the country on top, not lke malta just the flag of another country.

Maria Pace
You are right.
David Buttigieg
NO david, foreigners cannot and should not raise their flags in Malta. It is only Maltese flags that should be flown. It is only foreign embassies that are allowed to fly their national flags, all others are against the law. If they don't like it they can go back to their own countries. No one sent for them and we would do better without them. That shows how much they are ready to integrate.

The first item by Ms Pace demonstrates a person with a massive inferiority complex. I wonder if she has EVER left Malta and seen the other world out there?

@Maria Pace: Well said.
@David Buttigieg:Speak for yourself I live in the U.S.A and I wouldn't even think of flying the Maltese flag without the American flag next to it. Only ignorant people fly a flag without the home flag next to it.
@Lynda Thatcher: Maybe you need to lighten up. Selling Kinnie"s and some food from back home is one thing. But to fly the Maltese flag without the British flag in England is ignorant.
To all Maltese living in Malta and fly American, Canadian and any other flags without the Maltese flag. You ought to be ashamed.

It makes me cry to read some comments proving without doubt that they do not even know what a shipping register is all about, the difference between flying a national as opposed to a maritime flag and of scrap carrying ships flying the Maltese Maritime flag!
Astounding and pitiful!

Maria Pace you have a pretty big chip on your shoulder. Also "real Maltese" whats that all about? How many Maltese people live outside Malta and they make small communities in their adopted countries, opening up cafe's selling Kinnie and other foods which remind them of home. Lighten up Maria and live and let live.

i have nothing against ( or in favor) of flags of any nations,,,,
but referring to this article,,,,it is nice to have our flag on this ship,,, but what about the other ships carrying our flag?? are there any scrap ships carrying our flag as well??
im just asking....

@Maria Pace
Well, it is NOT the NATIONAL flag that is flying but the MARITIME flag!
As to "foreigners" raising "their" flag over "our" territory!
Come on, they have every right in the world to raise whatever flag they wish over their property! And it IS their property, it does not however in any way make "our" territory their own. Surely you're not so insecure as to feel threatened by it! After all Maltese migrants do the same abroad!

ThankGod for that it really makes a change to see our Maltese National Flag flying as oppose to the many many foreign flags,English are the main headache to see on roof tops and other ousiders making OUR territiory as their own. I would like to see more Mlatese Flags on roof tops and also local festas flags. Great to see our flag on the enviremental cruise ship.
