Pogrebnyak: Russia striker Pavel Pogrebnyak has joined Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart from Zenit St Petersburg. Pogrebnyak, 25, has been Zenit's top striker since joining the St Petersburg club from Siberian side Tom Toms in 2007. Zenit did not disclose transfer details nor the length of Pogrebnyak's contract.

In South America: Pele's former club Santos will hold the first women's Libertadores Cup tournament. Santos, Brazilian women's Copa Brasil champions in 2008, will stage the tournament from Oct. 6-18. The champions of each of the 10 nations of the CSF will play in two groups of five but the organisers have yet to decide whether the winners will go straight into a final or the top two in each group will play semi-finals first.

Panucci: Former Italy defender Christian Panucci has signed for promoted Serie A side Parma after his contract ran out at Roma. The 36-year-old former Milan player left Roma after eight years having fallen out with coach Luciano Spalletti.

Martins: Bundesliga champions VfL Wolfsburg have signed Nigeria forward Obafemi Martins from Newcastle United, the German club said. "He's exactly the kind of player we have been looking for to compliment Grafite and Edin Dzeko," Wolfsburg coach Armin Veh said. The 24-year-old former Inter Milan striker has signed a four-year contract at Wolfsburg with Newcastle confirming the fee to be €10.5 million.
