The Lifecycle team on Friday had a two-hour meeting with a counsellor and family therapist following the death of their colleague Cliff Micallef in an traffic accident early on Thursday.

"For two hours the members of the team opened up to their inner feelings with regards to Cliff's death and some spoke openly on their fears of riding since the incident," the team said following its meeting with Jenny Zammit.

Lifecycle chairman and event organiser Alan Curry had earlier visited the Micallef family. It was decided to go ahead with the plans to leave for Istanbul on Thursday and for the cyclists to attempt to cycle 2000km to Damascus in just 11 days to raise awareness about renal failure and funds in aid of renal patients and the Transplant Support Group.

"The committee and all the team feel that this is an obvious choice and they have the full support from Cliff's family in their decision."

The group is also looking into means on how to best commemorate Cliff's untimely demise and several options are being considered.
