A normal 12kg cylinder of gas will go up to €10.50 from €7.40, the Infrastructure Ministry said in a statement last night. It is the second increase in cylinder prices this year.

The 10kg cylinders will increase to €9 from €6.40 while a 10kg cylinder of propane will increase by €2.2 to €10.

The increase in the price of LPG and propane products from tomorrow follows government's decision to remove the last tranche of subsidies.

The subsidies on LPG products - which cost the government €600,000 in the last four months - have been gradually removed over the last year, for the opening of the internal market to ensure fair competition.

The price of leaded and unleaded petrol will go down by 1c tomorrow, though this may do little to appease consumers who faced an increase of 15c last month.

The prices were approved by the Malta Resources Authority to reflect the downward revision reflected the prices incurred by Enemalta Corporation for the latest shipment of imported fuel.

The price of leaded petrol will be €1.20 per litre, while unleaded petrol will cost €1.13 per litre.

There were no diesel consignments made last month, but the price will still go down by 1c due to movements in the exchange rate and stock levels.
