A year has passed since the strike called by the Public Transport Association over the liberalisation of the granting of licences to hearse operators.

Everyone remembers that this industrial action led to widespread disruption in July last year, blocking the island's main roads for several days and even resulting in a number of violent clashes.

The park-and-ride service between Floriana and Valletta provided by Coop Services Ltd did not operate either, with a statement by the Malta Transport Authority (ADT) that it had "irrevocably terminated the contract of Coop Services Ltd" because ADT had no dispute with the company and expected it to operate the service as usual.

Yet, a year later, the park-and-ride service is still provided by the same company.

Can someone from ADT let us know what happened with the contract that had to be terminated? Also, if a new contract is in the pipeline, may I suggest that a clause stating that vehicles must switch on their air conditioning systems in summer be inserted in the new contract?

Regular users know that this is the main drawback of using the park-and-ride service during the summer months. Most minibuses used to operate the service are new and equipped with air conditioning, but this is rarely used.
