Various companies in Malta launch different product schemes, some with great prizes, to maintain customer loyalty and attract consumers, but have you ever wondered what happens to the deposited empty containers?
Nestlé have come up with an innovative idea for their Nescafé collectable scheme, which was launched last September and has to date seen many thousands of jars exchanged for premium Nescafé gifts, such as mugs, vacuum flasks, sugar and milk bowls among other gifts.
Consumers can exchange their Nescafé Classic jars with the special quality seal at any of the exchange points in Malta (Nestlé premises in Lija, Maltapost offices in Cospicua and Gharb, Gozo) to redeem prizes. To ensure that these jars are recycled properly, Nestlé has entrusted Green Pak to recycle all glass jars and lids deposited at these three exchange points.
Apart from this, Nestlé Malta is also utilising the services of Green Dot to ensure that packaging material placed on the market for all Nestlé products are recycled.
"Nestlé believes in the values of good corporate citizenship and environmental awareness. In Green Dot Malta we see a partner willing to help us achieve these objectives in an efficient and reliable manner and that is why we chose to become a member of this scheme," said Nestlé Malta's managing director Giorgio Mondoví.
Over the past five years, Green Dot Malta has been recycling nearly four million kilos of packaging waste from over 250 member companies which would otherwise lack the infrastructure to recycle their waste according to their obligations.
Green Pak is a Mepa-approved, authorised compliance scheme for the recovery of packaging waste in Malta. Commercial businesses including small and medium enterprise and local councils, may obtain further information about packaging waste recycling by calling 2166 0233.
