A third of Malta was without water between Thursday and last night, with many localities facing the inconvenience for the second time this week.
A Water Services Corporation spokesman said that, due to a power failure, the water reverse osmosis plant at Pembroke could not be operated and the water supply to several localities was affected.
He said residences in St Julians, Pembroke, Gżira, Sliema, San Ġwann, Ta' Giorni, Ta' l-Ibraġ, Paceville, St Andrew's, Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq, Birkirkara, Msida, Swieqi, Ta' Xbiex and Kappara had their water supply suspended at 11.10 p.m. on Thursday. The supply was gradually returning to normal throughout the day yesterday, the spokesman said.
People in some of the affected localities were frustrated that this was the second water cut in the same week. On Tuesday night, a fault in a major water pipe close to the Pembroke reverse osmosis plant left residents in Swieqi and the surrounding areas high and dry for 36 hours. The areas affected included St Julians, Swieqi, Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq, Paceville and Pembroke.
