Clifford Micallef was just a name known mainly to his friends, the cycling fraternity that is, until his untimely death. The number of bloggers who commented on The Times website on his death clearly indicates that he was a lot more than a decent family man and a very keen cyclist. He combined his hobby with fund-raising for Lifecycle, he taught the disabled how to ride bikes and contributed in no small way to other charitable institutions.
His family's final and noble gesture, which Clifford would have heartily agreed to, was to donate his cornea so that someone else will benefit from his demise. I hope and pray that the relevant authorities will take note of what his son Max wishes in the face of this tragedy and loss of his father and idol, that is to make driving safer to save others!
Will the authorities please make Max's wish come true and stop the killing on our roads?
