The planning authority yesterday approved an application for a beverage distribution centre in Luqa to be turned into a storage facility for LPG gas cylinders.
The application was approved on a number of conditions including the building of 2.4 metre-high fire walls and a reservoir with a capacity of 165 cubic metres of water, requested by the Civil Protection Department.
A maximum of 65 tons of LPG gas can be stored within the fire walls at the site, which is in the Luqa industrial area.
The Occupational Health and Safety Authority also demanded certain conditions.
The Mepa board yesterday also approved an application for the building of another phase of the Tignè project, which consists of sports and recreational facilities.
