Visitors are not welcome anymore
What a betrayal! It seems as if we are going to end up with a hole in the wall and one in the ground to replace the beautiful opera house and the old baroque gate, which made the entrance to Valletta the breathtaking experience it once was.
As if that were not enough, our politicians are looking after themselves by requisitioning Freedom Square to build a House of Parliament (for 65 members), which no one ever asked for. Why not stay where they are or take over the Boffa Hospital area for their activities?
And what a job driving to Valletta is going to be - already bad enough, what with the Palace Square and Freedom Square gone, blue lines, green lines, yellow lines everywhere, not to mention the bisection of Valletta, caused by the removal of the road above the gate.
Furthermore, why not construct multi-tiered underground car parks beneath Freedom Square, thus solving what is now a perpetual parking problem when going to the city.
All in all, it looks as if Valletta will, in future, be repelling and not welcoming the visitors it so desires.

Snobbery, vanity and hypocrisy is the name of the game Ann
Notice that will be found near the bus terminus:
Welcome to City Gate without a Gate, a parliament on stilts and a roofless theatre with sails, courtesy of the modern vandals of our city Gonzi and Renzo Piano.

Forget it, its all about the money. Politicians don't care for you, me or anyone else by that manner. Some just want to cover their mistakes and make more. In the 70's Valletta was almost killed by the politician of the time. Its happening again, and do not mention more parking in Valletta, some friends of friends want to enjoy the new demand for parking.

It's a fantastic new design for Valletta. At last some progressive thinking rather than continually looking back at the past. When the original opera house was built it was also radical for the times. If nothing ever changed, we would still be living in caves.
Get over it and move with progress of get left behind - that's life.

"we are going to end up with a hole in the wall....."
Well, if the wall was solid you wouldn't be able to enter Valletta would you?
