July 18 was a red letter day for the Carmelite Society and the Queen Victoria Band of Żurrieq, which held a concert to honour the society's secretary, Emanuel Camilleri, who this year is celebrating the 50h anniversary of his appointment, a truly remarkable and unique achievement.

In fact, Mr Camilleri joined the society committee as a 19-year-old when, during the annual general meeting held on January 18, 1959 he was appointed secretary for the first time. He has been elected to the same position uninterruptedly at each general meeting held since then. This in itself is a confirmation of the great respect Mr Camilleri has enjoyed throughout all these years both among his fellow committee members as well as among all society members.

Throughout his long years of service to the Carmelite Society and Queen Victoria Band, Mr Camilleri has distinguished himself for his leadership qualities, his organisational skills, his patience and unassuming character and his determination to succeed.

The Carmelite Society and Queen Victoria Band have come a long way in these last 50 years thanks to the hard-working committees, which have been entrusted with its administration. Today, the society can rightly claim to be one of the best and most organised and innovative in the Maltese islands. A good part of this success is undoubtedly also due to Mr Camilleri's unstinting efforts, his vision and his desire to reach ever-higher standards. All this stems from his great dedication and love for the Carmelite Society and Queen Victoria Band and his devotion towards Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

The Carmelite Society and Queen Victoria Band must be proud to have had such a true gentleman as their secretary for these last 50 years. May Mr Camilleri continue with his fruitful and loyal work for many more years to come. He continues to be an asset to the society and the band and a role model for many of the younger generation in the society.

Ad multos annos, Mr Camilleri!
