With reference to the Dock 1 stores Cospicua, I notice, once again, we have not a jewel but a string of jewels waiting to be cleaned and polished.

Various governments over the past 13 years have concocted grand schemes, no doubt with plans etc. at considerable cost. Yet, not one stone has been cleaned, door painted or window repaired. Even the gates are still covered in brown-painted steel plates. Lovely!

Since the purely-for-profit boys are no longer interested, might now be a good time to go for a low tech, low cost upgrading programme for this beautiful area?

Put in a salaried building maintenance and engineering manager, with a couple of general labourers, someone of Maltese origin, with flair and ability to get things done: This manager should be authorised to employ labour and trades as required in order to ensure the quality of their work.

Then, work on the first two to five units, cleaning stonework, doing repairs and painting the original doors and windows. A bit like Valletta Waterfront, shop fronts could be fitted inside of the doors, the doors being there either just for aesthetic purposes to be seen "open" or else used as extra security.

Dare I suggest that the first one or two units be made into proper, modern public toilets catering for the whole area area of Cospicua, Next unit can be a store for maintenance equipment because, let's face it, nobody would want a shop next to the Loo. Next unit could be a tourist bureau, staffed by volunteers, and the next one a pastizzeria/café. Once the base units are clean, then one can move on to the next five.

Once cleaned up and equipped with electricity, water and drainage facilities, I am sure the units can be rented out.

There should be a pay car park and the area near the regatta club of Vittoriosa, not the main gate, should be reserved for pedestrians.
