The inner southbound lane of the St Paul's Bay bypass has been reopened for traffic - nine years after it was closed following a collapse.
The reopening of the lane was announced in a brief statement by the Malta Transport Authority which made no mention of the controversy which had dogged this stretch of road.
The ADT said the lane had been reopened following certified completion of works carried out by third parties within their property adjacent to the bypass.
The rebuilding of the road was frozen for several years while the authorities and contractors argued over responsibility, especially after the ownership of the adjacent land changed.
And after this stretch of road was eventually rebuilt, the ADT earlier this year requested the building of additional 'fin walls to give added strength to the new supporting wall. That work has now been completed.
