A 32-year-old man was this morning accused in court of defiling his five-year-old son.

The court was told that the man had exposed himself to his girlfriend in the presence of the boy in a car. The girlfriend is not the child's mother.

The man pleaded not guilty. The case happened on April 5. The man at the time only had custody of the child on Sundays.

Police Inspector Louise Calleja explained that the man had told the boy not to say anything, but the boy opened up. Clearly, she said, the boy was affected because he no longer wanted to see his father.

The accused was granted bail on condition that he does not approach witnesses and against a personal guarantee of €5,000.
