Here goes another obstacle for busy working mothers in Sliema trying to fit work and motherhood to a tight schedule.
One has to spend precious time at a bus stop waiting for yet another packed bus to drive by without stopping or, better still, a bus that never turns up!
What about those mothers to be who try to work as close to due date as possible so they may enjoy as much of their short maternity leave (only 14 weeks)? Are they also expected to wait rain and shine at the bus stop in their delicate state?
I understand the plight of Sliema residents.
However, alternative means of transport should be considered first. For example, introducing more frequent buses or a park and ride system.
I also noticed that in the morning many residents drive off to work leaving space for non-residents who work in the area. Therefore, if need be, implement the residents' parking scheme from late afternoon till the following morning! Everyone's rights should be taken into consideration, otherwise, yes, it would be discriminatory.
