Considering the attitude of Sweden on illegal emigration I accepted an invitation to attend the meeting The Times (July 2) referred to.

From the floor I mooted the point that the EU should stop exporting arms to warlords in that continent. The EU should join hands with Barack Obama who proclaimed in his mission statement in Accra that there should be a war on war in that continent.

I now appeal that Malta should, at the proper forum, insist that EU states should stop exporting arms to African hot spots and should name and shame any state that indulges in such trade. The EU states should then, together with the US, try to obtain consensus at the UN to force a ban on such exports.

I am sure our minister is capable of making such a move. It might take long to see results but every long journey starts with a short step. This is all in the name of our grandchildren.
