World champion Tyson Gay will run a 100 metres race in Stockholm on Friday despite a groin injury that threatens his world championships fitness, his manager said.

"Something really unexpected would have to happen (for Gay not to compete)," Mark Wetmore said.

"He really wants to run Stockholm."

The world 100 and 200m champion is scheduled to race former world record holder Asafa Powell over 100m in his final race before the August 15-23 world championships in Berlin.

Gay has been unable to train properly for several weeks because of the soreness in his groin, but clocked 20.00 seconds to win the 200 metres at the London grand prix on Saturday.

He plans to train in Germany between Stockholm and the world championships, where a highly-anticipated showdown looms with Jamaican world record holder and Olympic champion Usain Bolt.
