Tarxien council has complained that black dust has reappeared in the locality, after the problem had appeared to have been solved for a short while.
Mayor Paul Farrugia recalled that some years ago his council and several of its neighbours had protested over the soot-like dust and they were promised that filters would be installed at Marsa power station.
The problem disappeared for a while, he said, but the dust was now back, and the amounts were not small.
“You can easily see it on the roofs and in the yards, and you can feel it under your feet,” the mayor told timesofmalta.com.
“People keep phoning to complain all the time. Something needs to be done about it.”
The mayor said that in the past it had been shown that the black dust was being emitted from the Marsa power station and it seemed to him that the current problem started to get progressively worse ever since the recent blackout.
Mr Farrugia said this was detrimental to the people, particularly those who suffered asthma, and he was therefore urging the authorities to take remedial action.
Meanwhile, a number of readers have submitted posts or phoned to say that black dust has also reappeared in Paola, Fgura and parts of Zabbar.
