I am currently reading History of Art at the University of Malta. For my thesis, I am viewing a number of seascapes, paintings of ships, ex-voto tabelle as well as works of a religious nature featuring the sea.
The aim of this study is to bring out the influence of the sea in the art scene in 19th century Malta.
After reading the book Antique Maltese Clocks, published by Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti in 1992, I thought of writing a critical appreciation of the miniature paintings of seascapes and naval battle scenes that feature prominently in the chapter ring of Maltese clocks (also known as arloġġi tal-lira).
I would be grateful if any owners of such clocks were to contact me on 9943 3388 or e-mail kimar@live.com.
