A musical drama based on the July 1551 attack on Gozo by the Turks and Gozo's popular legend of Don Bernardo de Opuo's resistance and death will be staged at St Michael Bastion, Victoria, on Friday at 9 p.m.

The drama, organised by the Gozo and Comino Branch of Din l-Art Ħelwa, will be directed by Terry Shaw and is based on the book by David Crewe.

The bastion is the actual location where the historic event took place. The principal roles are played by Ludwig Galea, Georgina Gauci and Mary Rose Mallia, backed by a 40-strong chorus.

Capturing the evening on canvas will be Gozitan artist Paul Stellini.

Doors open at 8 p.m. and seating will be on a first-come-first-served basis.

All funds raised during the evening will go towards the restoration and upkeep of historic sites manned by Din l-Art Ħelwa.
