Pupils at St Ignatius College, Ħandaq, applied their maths skills in a unique shopping experience at Pavi Supermarket, Qormi, where in an exercise during which they had to buy products from a shopping list on a pre-determined budget.

The pupils had to estimate the bill by rounding prices, choose products that gave good value for money and then work out the actual bill and calculate the change.

This was the second successive year that the pupils' teacher Stephanie Asciak organised the outing as part of the mathematics basic skills syllabus.

During the visit, the pupils were accompanied by their Maths and English teachers and a learning support assistant.

At the start of the visit, Pavi marketing manager John Grima took the pupils on a tour around the supermarket, including its stores, offices and bakery, explaining how everything functions.

A video of the outing may be viewed on the school's website, http://schoolnet.gov.mt/ksi .
