During summer recess MPs serve pizza!
Eight members of the Kilimanjaro Challenge IV team on their recent expedition to Mount Etna.
Ever fancied being served by a member of Parliament?
Well, the opportunity has just come along as MPs from both sides of the House will be serving pizza to patrons at the NSTS Aquacentre on July 31 in aid of a good cause.
Entitled Pizza Night by MP, the event is being organised by the Kilimanjaro Challenge Team IV, whose mission is to raise €65,000 to subsidise the first phase of the construction of an orphanage in Nyamonge, Kenya.
The orphanage, which will be called the Oasis of Peace, will host babies and children whose parents have contracted or died of AIDS. The Kisumu Municipality, where Nyamonge is located, is one of the worst areas in Kenya in terms of HIV due to poverty in the region and lack of sex education.
The MPs confirmed so far are Evarist Bartolo, David Agius, Carmelo Abela, Owen Bonnici, Helena Dalli and Jason Azzopardi and MEP Louis Grech.
The Kilimanjaro Challenge team, made up of 14 people from all walks of life, is training hard to make it to the summit of the Kilimanjaro in the first week of September.
The members have been meeting at least three times a week since October to trek together, come rain or shine. The aim is not only to build their physical stamina but also to develop the psychological strength and determination they need to make it to the top of Africa's highest peak.
The Kilimanjaro is also the highest free-standing mountain in the world with an altitude of 5,891.8 metres. In preparation for the climb, the group has recently taken part in a training expedition on Mount Etna, Sicily.
Bookings can be made through e-mail on kilichallenge4@gmail.com or by sending an SMS to 7920 5708.

Great fund-raising idea. Hope you reach your fund-raising target and more. Wish you the best of luck in your climb.
My advise is.... take it slow, this is not a race and it's the slowest climbers who generally make it to the top. And be self-disciplined at all times, especially on summit day. It's not a nice experience to be standing outside the tents in freezing temperatures at midnight at 4600m and cannot get moving because a team member is taking it easy in his/her sleeping bag.
Good luck and take care

This practice was followed by the PC (Communist Party) in Italy as a means to break-down the distinctions between the electorate and the elected. See the book by the anthropologist, David Ketrzer: Comrades and Christians, which is based on a study in Bologna in the late 1970s. Good to see that we are merely lagging some 40 years in emulation.....
And the PC MPs also served Pizzas!...
