Emirates sustaining links between Maltese and relatives in Australia

The connections that Emirates airline has for flights between Malta and four cities in Australia have been a beneficial factor in the strengthening of communal links between Maltese living in the two countries.

The two communities are thousands of miles apart but Emirates has now reported that an average total of 21,000 passengers have flown Emirates both ways during the last three consecutive years.

Closely following the launch of Emirates’ A380 service to Sydney on 1st February, Emirates has stepped up its presence in Australia with the introduction of a third daily service to Melbourne. Sydney and Melbourne are the cities with the largest Maltese communities. A second daily service to Brisbane was introduced this year escalating the airline’s weekly capacity to 63 flights serving the four Australian gateways, including Perth.

“Today, Emirates flies daily from Malta to Dubai. In about 30 hours, one can be enjoying the cherished company of family and friends in Sydney – only 22 hours to Melbourne - and at the same enjoy some spectacular scenery in Australia,” said Paul Fleri Soler, Emirates’ Manager for Malta and Cyprus.

As from this month, Emirates are bringing the charm and appeal of Australia to life by maximizing landmark images such as the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Bridge, through the medium of bus wrapping.

“We know of many Maltese who have always wished to visit their relatives in Australia. There are also a good number of Maltese, who although having no relatives there, have always dreamt of visiting Australia to see the marvellous attractions it has to offer. With such convenient times and prices that, at present, are cheaper than last year, we believe that now can be an ideal time to make this long awaited trip,” he said.

Emirates are also launching another campaign focusing on the Far East, using iconic symbols such as the Chinese lanterns. Emirates flies to 12 destinations in the Far East and this year it announced double-daily services from Dubai to Kuala Lumpur and introduction of three additional weekly flights from Dubai to Jakarta. The airline operates flights to Bangkok, Beijing, Guangzhou, Hong Kong Jakarta, Kuala Lampur, Manila, Osaka, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore and Taipei (cargo only).
