Obituary

AGIUS. PETER. Widower of Jane, née Griscti-Soler, formerly apothecary of the Rotunda Pharmacy, Mosta and lately of Kappara and German-speaking guide for the Malta Tourism Authority, died peacefully on July 20 at Villa Messina, aged 99 years, the last survivor of the Agius line. He leaves to mourn his loss his children Edith and her husband Dr David Allen, Astrid and her husband Dr Gennaro Francione, Professor Dionisius of Exeter University and his wife Anne, and Ingrid, wife of Anthony Mifsud-Bonici. Also his grandchildren Heidi De Carlo, Kevin and David Debono, Maya Francione, Safja Marija Agius, Lara and Alex Mifsud-Bonici and Nadia George. Also his great-grandchildren Christina and Petra De Carlo, Jacques and Anouk Debono, Max and Josh Mifsud-Bonici, as well as his Agius and Griscti-Soler nephews and nieces. Requiem Mass will be said on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Dominican church, Rabat (next to Villa Messina), followed by interment in the family grave at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. The Agius family remains grateful to the nursing and caring stuff of Villa Messina.

CALLEJA. On July 22, Michelina, née Cassar, widow of Carmelo, passed away peacefully, comforted by the presence of her family and the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss, her children Carmen and her husband Harry, Violet and Karmenu, Frida and her husband Ray, Michael and his wife Margaret, Colin and his wife Isabelle, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her many relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 8 a.m. and Mass in celebration of her life will take place at 8.30 a.m. at San Ġwann parish church. The family would like to thank the staff at M6 yellow ward for their care and all those who expressed their condolences. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

LUNGARO MIFSUD. ELENA, née Rausi, widow of Victor, passed peacefully away on July 19, comforted by the presence of her beloved family and the rites of the Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Vincent and his wife Marlene, Mary Rose Chalmers and her husband Roderick, her grandchildren Kevin, James, John and his wife Rachel, Amanda and her husband Christopher, Nicholas and his wife Julie, and Alistair, as well as her great-grandchildren Ellie, Chiara, Francesca, Alexander, Kate and Marisol, her brother Albert, and many other relatives and friends. The funeral will be held today with a Mass in celebration of her long and happy life taking place at 9 a.m. at Ta' l-Ibraġ parish church. The family would like to thank the staff at Casa Antonia, Balzan and the medical and nursing staff at the Mater Dei and Zammit Clapp hospitals for their compassionate care and great kindness.

Mepa reform

Consultation meetings on the planning authority's reform continued and will reach a peak at a national conference at the end of the month.

The government has so far met non-governmental organisations, environmental groups, the Chamber of Architects and the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development.

Meetings were also being held for Malta Environment and Planning Authority employees and the unions representing them.

Those wishing to attend the national conference on Mepa reform on July 31 can call on 2200 1464 or send an e-mail to riformamepa@gov.mt.

The government is also preparing a Bill that will be discussed in Parliament after the summer recess.

Lottery winner

Mary Doris Zammit from Qormi won the July edition of the Scratchers 2nd Chance Lottery and will be enjoying a weekend break for two in Paris. The prize, which Maltco Lotteries says is worth about €1,500, includes flights, accommodation, taxes, fuel surcharge and service fees and is offered in cooperation with Air Malta.

Scratchers enthusiasts can participate in this lottery by mailing to Maltco's head office €10 worth of non-winning Instant tickets. These should arrive at Maltco's offices two days before the end of the month, thus participating in the draw held in the following month.

Visiting hours

Fort Rinella in Kalkara and the Malta at War Museum in Vittoriosa will be closed on Mondays starting on August 1, Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna said.

The sites will be open to visitors between Tuesdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Guided tours and film shows are held at both sites on the hour. At 2.30 p.m., a full-scale historical re-enactment takes place at Fort Rinella, including military swordsmanship and live cannon and musketry firing.

Free transport is available to both sites from the Saluting Battery in Valletta leaving at 12.15 p.m. and 1.15 p.m. daily except Mondays.

Honey festival

A festival celebrating the sweetness of local honey will be held on Sunday in Independence Garden, Sliema.

The Rural Affairs Ministry's campaign is to promote "naturally Maltese" products and the festival will feature informative stands including food stalls offering recipes with honey.

The event starts at 6 p.m.

Fund-raising

The Friends of the Little Sisters of the Poor will be holding a buffet dinner at the Meridiana Wine Estate, Ta' Qali on August 6 at 8.30 p.m. to raise funds for the home for the elderly in Ħamrun.
