Shaolin Monks to return with Kalari Fighters

The Shaolin Kung Fu Monks from China are to return to Malta in November with The Masters of Kalaripayattu from India, also known as the Kalari Fighters

They will be performing together, for the first time, on November 6,7 and 8 at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta.

Within the framework of his new Shaolin-Show, The Holy Mountain show producer Herbert Fechter will engage five of the best Kalaripayattu masters in India to compete with the monks.

The holy Song Shan Mountain is situated in the heart of China. There are no less than 72 monasteries and temples around Song Shan, a place of mystical power and magic beauty, for centuries a meeting point of philosophers, religious founders and wise men.

That includes the famous Shaolin monastery – the birthplace of Zen Buddhism where mysterious monks of Shaolin Kung-Fu live.

In the new show there are scenes of the holy mountain shot at the original sites, leading over to the live exercises of the monks on stage with impressive demonstrations.

Shaolin Kung Fu is considered to be the mother of all martial arts worldwide and the monastery is deemed to be a national monument.

The monks have performed to more than twelve and a half million spectators during more than 2,000 performances on four continents in some of the largest halls in the world and most intimate theatres with their unbelievable and fascinating Shaolin Kung Fu.

Meanwhile, Kalaripayattu is believed by the historians to be one of the oldest existing martial arts in the world. The training to become a master of Kalaripayattu also includes the training in Ayurveda and in locating the vital points of the body. A Kalari Guru is not only a trained movement artist but also an ayurvedic doctor.

The shows will be presented by Standing Ovations.
