Eriksson linked to Notts County

England manager Sven Goran Eriksson is in talks with England's oldest Football League club Notts County about becoming director of football, local media reported yesterday.

BBC Radio Nottingham said that the Swede, who spent five years in charge of England's national team and led them to the quarter-final of the 2006 World Cup, had been approached by the club's new Middle East owners.

County, one of the founder members of the Football League but outside the top flight since 1992, are currently languishing in League Two (fourth division).

They were bought last week by Munto Finance.

Athole Still, Eriksson's agent, was unavailable for comment yesterday while the club were not commenting.
