Slovakia is "considering the possibility" of assisting Malta in the resettlement of migrants holding humanitarian protection status.

Illegal migration was one of the major issues discussed in talks between Foreign Minister Tonio Borg and his Slovak counterpart Miroslav Lajcak in Slovakia yesterday.

Mr Laycak said Slovakia was exploring the possibility of assistance within the European Immigration and Asylum Pact.

In their talks, the two ministers also spoke about their countries' different experiences since joining the European Union and the eurozone.

Dr Borg raised the possibility of launching a friendship association between the two countries to explore different aspects of cultural development.
