The 2011 International Council of Nurses Congress is being held in Malta, the Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses said this afternoon.
President Paul Pace said this was a huge and major congress which was expected to be attended by 3,000 to 4,000 people.
He said that an MUMN delegation had just returned from South Africa where the event was promoted. The delegation was proud of the efforts which had been made.
Mr Pace thanked the government for its support saying that without it, it would have been impossible to organise such an event. He also thanked Social Policy Minister John Dalli, the Malta Tourism Authority, the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Associations and other organisations which lent a helping hand.
The congress, on May 5, 6, and 7, will be part of a 10-day event. The previous two congresses were held in Taiwan and Japan and Malta’s will be followed by ones in Australia and Brazil.
Mr Dalli thanked the union for promoting Malta so successfully. Malta’s biggest asset, he said, was its people and such an activity would have a big economic impact for the country.
