Update 2 - Enemalta considering legal action against contractor

Enemalta is considering legal action against a contractor who this morning damaged an 11kv electricity cable interrupting the electricity service feeding the Gharghur transmission antenna, parts of Lija and Naxxar.

The damage saw private radio stations going off air for an hour with only stations belonging to PBS, which used different transmission facilities to Gharghur, being received.

Enemalta said in a statement this afternoon that measures were immediately taken to supply the affected areas with an alternative supply and excavation works to repair the damaged underground cable were initiated.

Priority was given to the electricity service on the Gharghur transmission where electricity was restored by 8:04 a.m. Gharghur and Naxxar residents had their electricity service restored by 8:42 a.m and Lija residents by 10:30 a.m.
