The Malta Red Cross scuba diving unit – Gozo Branch is placing underwater signs and cleaning the existing ones at the site of the Xlendi.

The project was commissioned by the Gozo Ministry. The new signs supplement the old ones and are located on the inside and the outside of the wreck, situated off ix-Xatt l-Ahmar in Mgarr.

Technical diving techniques have been used to ensure the safety of the divers taking part in the project.

Last November the wreck claimed the life of British diver Paul Swain.

An inquest launched in Hartlepool's soon after the incident concluded that the diver's death could have been avoided had clear danger signs been in place. However, it also concluded that the death was accidental.
