Best of luck to ex-national team players John Buttigieg and Carmel Busuttil on their appointment at the helm of the National Team. Their experience is surely a credit of success as much as is their love for the national side. I am 100% optimistic that they can obtain what local football followers have been waiting for. The statistics around Mr.Fitzel are there to stay. Perhaps the worst ever if one has to go through the annals of local football.
Results.
Total 26 matches
3 matches won
3 matches drew
20 matches lost
scored 22 goals (7 in 1 match vs Liechtensten)
goals agains 81 goals
no goal scored in last 10 matches

I wish John and Carmel all the best in their venture. They both deserve the opportunity because in their time they gave outstanding service to the national team.
Having said that, their experience counts far more than their passport. To raise our standard of play what we need next is to get more of our players into professional leagues in Europe.
I would urge the MFA to setup a scheme in which a batch of the most promising youths are given assistance to go for trials at foreign academies.
If they were to construct a national squad in which 80% played professional football abroad then we would definitely see the improvement that is so longed for by everyone.

@E.Meilak ..... well does being maltese mean that he is better? ....Fitzel got gr8 results also and also Dobrev got some good results and also Heese and none of them are maltese.....so all coaches managed to get good results.....after all a Maltese coach has the record of a 12-1 defeat which still is the largest defeat in our history.......
So employ a coach on his ability not on his nationality and i've seen johnny buttigieg coach birkirkara in the past seasons and it was counter attack game and 11 players in defence....
I would have gone for a more qualified and experianced coach
But just the same Good luck Buzu and Johnny

Finally a Maltese coach!!!!!! The last time our national team had any respectable results is when we had a Maltese coach! Since then it has been a foreign flop after flop!!!! Money down the drain with nothng to show for it.
GOOD LUCK JOHNNY AND BUZU!!!

I think that a foreign coach would have been a better choice also now that more and more maltese players are having the chance of going abroad! But since now Buttigieg is our coach i wish him luck and hopefully he will get us some good results!

Finally, a sensible and welcome decision by the MFA.
I wish every success to John who I am sure the National team will fare better than under any other foriegn coach.
