With reference to letters carried in The Times regarding progress of works in connection with St Elia Street, the council would like to clarify the situation.

The council is not happy with the general performance of the contractor on site; however,assurances have been given by the same contractor that over the coming weeks real progress will be registered. The council through its architect is monitoring the daily progress to be able to advise forward. The council regrets any inconvenience to the residents of the street, however, are appealing for good sense to prevail considering that particular problems were encountered most of which were not within the control of the council.
