The U-18 European Championship Division C for men gets under way this evening when the opening three matches from the competition are played at the Ta' Qali basketball pavilion.

Seven countries have been split into two groups. Malta, under the guidance of coach Bruno Dipietrantonio, are in Group A along with Moldova, Monaco and San Marino. Andorra, Gibraltar and Wales make up Group B.

Malta, who have Benetton Treviso player Sam Deguara in their squad, launch their campaign against San Marino this evening at 7.15. Earlier, Moldova face Monaco in the opening match at 2.45 p.m. while Andorra play Gibraltar at 5 p.m.

The official opening ceremony is scheduled for 6.30 p.m.

This is the second international event to be hosted by the Malta Basketball Association this month after the U-18 girls tournament was also staged here last week. Luxembourg won gold ahead of runners-up Monaco and Malta who finished third.
