A postgraduate three-semester, late afternoon course in the history of the Order of St John, leading to the award of a Master of Arts in History, will be offered for the first time in October at the University by the Department of History in collaboration with the Malta Institute of Cultural Studies (MIOCS).
MIOCS, a recently-launched, privately-owned institute which aims to embark on a number of publishing, cultural, academic and other activities, is the brainchild of Comm. Raymond Bugeja of Milan and Comm. Dr George Buttigieg.
It aims to renew interest in the religious military orders, especially the Hospitallers, and has started by making a heavy financial commitment in this course. Prof. Victor Mallia-Milanes, is the course co-ordinator.
The instititute will shortly publish the second edition of the Journal of the Monastic Military Orders. The first edition was issued earlier this year and has been widely acclaimed locally and abroad. Other publications are in the pipeline for 2009.
For details on the course, contact the History department secretary on 2340 2295, or Prof. Mallia-Milanes on 2340 2297, 2132 2885 or e-mail victor.mallia-milanes@um.edu.mt.
