Local rugby club Birkirkara Alligators will be taking part in the 2009/10 MRFU competitions including the women's Sevens for the first time.

This was announced a few days ago when club officials and players met for the launching of a new season at the Birkirkara Local Council offices where they were greeted by the town's Mayor Michael Fenech Adami.

"The team will be composed of experienced and new players," a club statement said.

"We are now urging those interested in joining our ranks to try out the sport during the pre-season, scheduled to start on August 4.

"Rugby covers all aspects of the game to ensure a healthy season with effective results. In Malta, the women's league is based on the Sevens game which focuses mainly on speed and agility, a perfect blend to stay in shape and keep fit."

Alligators also announced they will be maintaining their annual tradition of travelling overseas on tour to experience new cultures and bringing people together through rugby while sticking to the principles of Fair Play.

Those interested in joining the Alligators club may obtain more details by phoning 9985-8797 or 7906-5795.
